The
La Venta Inn has enjoyed a full, rich history on the Palos
Verdes Peninsula. This nationally recognized historical
landmark dates back to the early 1920s when a group of
international businessmen set out to develop the ideal
residential community.
Built in 1923, La Venta was the first structure on the peninsula.
Architects Walter and Pierpont Davis designed the building
and the famous landscape architects, the Olmstead brothers,
designed the gardens.
Originally,
La Venta served as a clubhouse for the entertainment of
prospective land developers. In
the late 1920s, La Venta
became a famous black-tie restaurant and in the 1930s, a
weekend retreat for such notable people as Charles Lindberg,
Tyrone Power, Cary Grant and Gloria Swanson. During World
War II, La Venta’s tower was utilized as a 24-hour
lookout point for the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1944, La Venta
was purchased by a local family as a private residence. The
family opened the property as a celebration site in the mid
1950s.
The New York Food Company took over management of this special
venue in 1992. Since then, La Venta has undergone a facelift
to restore some of the historic touches that had eroded over
time.
Today, La Venta continues to be the perfect setting for
private parties.
